The Environmental Emergency Service (EHS) is technically equipped for complete management of environmental accidents related to the discharge of oil and other chemical materials. The means used fulfil strict criteria for use in environments with the risk of explosion or for contact with acids and alkalis.

Fast action vehicles
The EHS uses fast action vehicles equipped to deal with environmental accidents - Dodge RAM 2500 and Toyota Hilux with special superstructures and high trafficability.

The equipment of the vehicle ensures:
  • exhaustion of chemical materials from the terrain;
  • protection of surface flows by baffles;
  • pumping of oil products from flows;
  • monitoring of contamination in the rock environment, including specification of its migration;
  • monitoring of ground and groundwater;
  • protection of drainlines;
  • treatment of affected areas by absorptive materials, their collection and safe storage;
  • specification of parameters of the working environment.

Light action boats
The aluminium Marine – Boat is produced from an aluminium alloy with high specific conductance and, therefore, can also be used in an environment with the risk of explosion. For this reason, aluminium boats are used in the case of escape of oil products as working boats. The inflatable Ultimate Dinghy 400 is characterised by low weight and high stability when used in fast flowing water. The boats serve for installation of baffles, application of sorbents and surveying of contamination. Both boats are equipped with a suspended motor (Suzuki 14.5 kW).

Air technology
DEKONTA also uses a small passenger plane (Cesna) and a helicopter (Robinson R44) for aerial surveying of large-area accidents, fast transport to distant destinations or monitoring of product pipelines.

Protective means
In the case of escape of toxic or unknown substances, a range of protective means are used: Tychem TK chemical clothing is the latest type of light chemical clothing with extraordinarily high protection against penetration of chemicals. This gasproof cloth is produced from multi-layer material. The chemical resistance of Tychem TK is for most aggressive chemicals longer than 480 minutes (ammonia, chlorine, toluene, dichloromethane, etc.). The clothing has replaceable double gloves and top boots. It is equipped with an extraordinarily large, flexible inspection hole enabling maximum viewing. The clothing is designed for use exclusively with an air breathing device. Breathing devices (Auer) – modern overpressure breathing devices with a light composite bottle ensure safety during work in toxic or non-breathable environments. In the case of action in lower-risk environments, members of the emergency group are equipped with action clothes (NOMEX), shoes (HAIX), helmets (GALLET) and action gloves with resistant-to-chemical substances and lamps for ZONE 2. For work in a defined environment with lower concentration of harmful substances, whole-face masks and semi-masks with 3M filters, which ensure long-term protection, are used. In the case of action on a water level, waterproof clothes (REO AMOS) are used.

Pumps and skimmers
The EHS possesses a series of pumps for various uses and different media. The equipment of the unit includes peristaltic, circulation, membrane and worm pumps. Peristaltic pump (DEPA/ELRO) – a universal, highly resistant self-suction pump for pumping of inflammable liquids, acids and alkalis. The MAST TUP 2-1 pump can be used for pumping of products classified in explodibility group IIA and IIB in explodibility group1 and 2. It is possible to perform pumping by means of a submerged basket or by connection to the OELA III skimmer. The pump is used for transport of inflammable liquids with solid particles up to the size of 8 mm. The flow at 5 m of water column is 350 l/min ~ 24 m3/h. The centrifugal sludge pump (WACKER PT 3A) is a high-performance centrifugal pump driven by a petrol motor (Honda 250 cm3) used for transport of waste water and less inflammable oil products (oils, crude oil). It is mainly used for pumping flooded underground premises. The delivery head is 29 m, the maximum flow 96 m3/h. High-performance sinking pumps (Sigma) with the possibility to be connected in a cascade and pumping from the depth of up to 40 m. Skimmer (OELA) – a floating oil collector for rapid exhaustion of oil and other similar contaminating substances from the levels of calm and flowing water with automatic adjustment of the collection edge.

Baffles and absorption means
In the DEKONTA Slaný centre the consignment warehouse of emergency means of the firm REO AMOS is situated within IZS. It mainly concerns baffles, sorbents, sorbent walls and obstruction. Hydrophobic sorption carpets – polypropylene non-woven textile which is used for rehabilitation of hazardous liquids from water levels and solid surfaces. Hydrophobic and universal sorption debris – loose products used for solid surfaces, water levels, oil products and other chemicals. Solid baffles – filled with foam – used for production of barriers on a water level during liquidation of ecological accidents and during prevention of them. Inflatable baffle – serves for collection of oil products from the water level. It is an air hose in the form of a cylinder with the diameter of 30 cm which is equipped with a barrier curtain with the height of 48 cm.

Rehabilitation equipment
Rehabilitation equipment with various purposes is used for rehabilitation of a locality after the escape of a contaminant. For rehabilitation of underground water, it is possible to use gravitation sorption separators, stripping columns, biotechnology. Catalytic-oxidation incinerators, venting stations and carbon sorption filters are used to exhaust contaminated air or air mass of a non-saturated zone. To ensure long-term rehabilitation work, modern technologies developed in the SEP and TZ divisions are used.

Portable analysers and gauges
They serve for gathering of immediate information about explosive properties of the environment, concentration of organic steam or the character of an unknown escaped substance. The portable ECOPROBE 5 gas analyser serves for prompt evaluation of the scope of contamination by oil hydrocarbons in the soil environment. The Ecoprobe 5 for gas-metric measurement is equipped with a photo-ionising detector which ensures measurement of the content of hydrocarbons in the soil air for more than 250 hydrocarbon compounds with sharp suppression of the disturbing influences of methane. It is also equipped with an infrared analyser. Measured air is exhausted by means of ground probes into the device. The Draeger explosion detector with continual measurement of the working environment. Standard equipment includes dosimeters, pH meters, detection and absorption tubes, phase meters, level meters.

Boring set
The belt-type boring set AMS Power Probe 9630 Versa Track (VTR) makes it possible in the pressure (vibration) regime to perform very fast surveying of the locality and sampling of consistent stratified samples in PET pockets with the diameter of 72 mm. The weight of the set without equipment is 5.7 tonnes. The set also drills in the rotation regime by means of a spiral.
