Project description 

The aim of the project is the development and validation of an innovative technology for the remediation of sites contaminated with mixed light non-aqueous phase liquids (LNAPL) formed by petroleum hydrocarbons and solvents, using remotely monitored and controlled in situ electrically enhanced chemical and biological oxidation. 

The technology will involve the sequential application of advanced site investigation methods, followed by online monitoring and control of remediation activities, including heating and mobilization of the contaminant phase, its extraction, in situ oxidation using peroxydisulfate, and final polishing by anaerobic oxidation involving sulphate-reducing bacteria. This integrated approach will lead to optimization of costs, reduction of remediation time, and minimization of impacts on the environment.
