Asbestos Inspection

Dekonta provides asbestos inspections and surveys in buildings and homes.

Why such service is so important?

Asbestos is the term used for the fibrous forms of several naturally occurring minerals. The main types of asbestos using in construction are:

  • Crocidolite, also known as blue asbestos;
  • Amosite, also known as brown asbestos;
  • Chrysotile, also known as white asbestos.

All three different types are dangerous, but the brown and the blue types are known to be more dangerous than the white.

Where asbestos is affected by the presence of heating or chemicals or when they are combined with other substances, the different types cannot be identified solely by their colour. Therefore, sampling and laboratory analysis procedures are necessary in order to confirm the presence and identify the different asbestos types.

Asbestos containing materials (ACMs), by themselves, are not considered a hazard to the health. However, when they are in poor condition and disturbed in such way that they are likely to release fibres that can be inhaled, ACMs become a problem that need to be dealt with. Otherwise, ACMs are generally safe to use.
