In 2024, DEKONTA built on a previous project and focused on optimizing the technology for recycling lithium-ion batteries (LIB). The goal is to create a design for an operational facility and an economic study for processing waste LIBs. After evaluating these documents, steps can be taken to implement and certify the recycling line, which is crucial for the growing demand for recycling capacities in the Czech Republic.
The planned facility will operate in several stages: sorting and disassembly, stabilization, disintegration, electrolyte removal, second stage disintegration, and separation. The facility's capacity is 250 tons per year, with an emphasis on safety and waste minimization. The main goal is to maximize the material utilization of waste LIBs, with output materials including plastics, aluminum, electronic components, a mixture of aluminum and copper foils, black dust (graphite, Ni, Li, Co, Mn), magnetic metals, and waste plastics.
