The project, funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), aimed to conduct a survey of the pesticide landfill contaminated with persistent organic pollutants (POPs) at the Nubarashen site and prepare tender documentation for a future remediation project. The project also included training experts on the provisions of the Basel Convention.
The key activities involved comprehensive site mapping and analytical assessment, sampling and labeling of contaminated soil for testing the effectiveness of decontamination technologies, updating risk assessments and classification criteria, and designing the remediation plan and operational procedures, including cost estimates. Additionally, the project encompassed environmental and social impact assessments and training for site supervisors, laboratory personnel, and sampling staff.
