The former INCEL Banja Luka Cellulose Factory in Banja Luka has been abandoned since the 1990s. We conducted a detailed survey of the site, identifying the most contaminated areas, known as hotspots. At each of these hotspots, we took soil samples up to 3 meters below ground level to determine both horizontal and vertical spread of PCB contamination.
A total of 595 soil samples were collected. Based on the results of laboratory analyses, we calculated the volume of contaminated soil that needs to be excavated. We then developed the remediation design for the site. As part of the project, we also prepared an online geoportal for the client, which contains information about the survey results and clearly displays the areas for remediation, including the extent of necessary soil excavation.
