Decontamination of the fire suppression system in Hangar No. 3 at Munich International Airport

As part of the decontamination of fire suppression systems from PFAS substances in accordance with applicable European regulations, DEKONTA IC, in cooperation with BUCHEN GmbH, carried out the decontamination of the fixed fire suppression system in Hangar No. 3 at Munich International Airport.

The work was carried out from March to May 2026 and primarily involved the decontamination of storage tanks and piping systems, including so-called monitors.

A total of 10 storage tanks and associated piping systems, including mixing valves and monitors, were decontaminated. New liners were installed in the decontaminated tanks. The work included the disassembly and reassembly of the piping systems. A total of approximately 70 samples were collected. The work generated approximately 70 m³ of wastewater and old fluorinated foaming agents.

Approximately 350 liters of DIC-SBC reagent and approximately 12,000 liters of DIC-DBC reagent were used to decontaminate the system. Work on a single monitor took up to 15 hours.
